Focussing social giant Facebook on Wednesday launched mentorship initiative and a skilling over five countries in India that could inspire women to develop into digital leaders for their own communities.

Named GOAL (Going Online As Leaders), the initiative will instruct young women from West Bengal, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh in electronic literacy, life skills, entrepreneurship and leadership for annually.

The programme will observe literacy is imparted by coaches into the women via a skilling program. Additionally, a pair of 25 women leaders could mentor them through Facebookor even WhatsApp on a fortnightly basis.

“The world wide web, notably social websites, over the last couple of years has emerged as one of the most effective tools for enabling girls from around India’s varied social economic histories and diverse cultural origins,” Ankhi Das, Public Policy Director, Facebook -India, South and Central Asia, said in a statement.

“With GOAL, we attempt to create the electronic medium more usable and accessible for young women out of our source rich but economically weak tribal communities in the nation.

“We’re convinced that this community of students will use these abilities as a way of economic and social altitude for themselves and induce change making within their own communities,” Das said.

The programme will concentrate because of financial constraints but live close to the center that was skilling to ensure involvement, the report stated.
